Celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week at the Greenbrier Valley Visitors Center

April 28, 2016

On Tuesday May 3rd, the Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) will celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week with an Open House at the Greenbrier Valley Visitors Center located in downtown Lewisburg. The CVB invites everyone to stop by between 9:30 am and 6 pm to register for a prize package, learn about tourism in the Greenbrier Valley and enjoy light snacks.

Running from May 1st to May 7th 2016, National Travel and Tourism Week was established to highlight the importance of the travel industry on the US economy.  A 2014 study showed that $221.5M was spent by tourists in Greenbrier County last year; this equals $607,000 in spending each day by tourists which supports 2321 local jobs.  In West Virginia $12.3 million a day is spent by overnight and day travelers supporting 46,000 jobs throughout the state.  The genius of the travel industry is that there is basically an endless supply of customers and the jobs serving these customers will forever be local.

The Greenbrier Valley prize basket in currently on display at the Visitors Center and registration is available through May 6. The basket includes tickets to the The Greenbrier Bunker Tour, Lost World Caverns and a movie at the Lewis Theatre, complete with snacks. A gift certificate to Studio 40 and items from Aggies and Wolf Creek Gallery are included. The winner will certainly not go hungry as gift certificates from both the Dutch House and Jim’s Drive-In are included. A Southern Living Cookbook featuring a recipe from Jim’s Drive-In rounds out this package.

The Greenbrier Valley is also giving away a trip to the Greenbrier Valley in an online contest. Participants can enter this giveaway by visiting the CVB’s Facebook page at Greenbrier Valley, WV.  The trip includes a stay at the Lewisburg Quality Inn, tickets to The Greenbrier Bunker Tour, Lost World Caverns, the Greenbrier Valley Theatre and certificates from Wolf Creek Gallery, Studio 40, Food and Friends and the Greenbrier River Campground.
